Joelton Youth Ministry (JYM) seeks to balance
reaching the lost with the Gospel and developing the
next generation of Christian leaders. In addition to providing a range of
opportunities for spiritual growth and leadership, JYM also teaches students
to serve. Whether it's serving at FBCJ,
participating in our youth drama and worship teams,
feeding the homeless, or participating in projects like
World Changers or staffing Student Life Camp,
students learn to use their gifts for the Lord.
The last few years have been an exciting time for JYM. We have seen growth not only in numbers, but also the scope of the ministry itself, adding Sunday school classes, ministry arts groups and events, as well as opportunities for missions and leadership development. In order to keep up with this growth while remaining committed to excellence, we have restructured the youth ministry into middle and high school divisions with unique educational, missional and spiritual opportunities that cater to the needs of each teen in an age appropriate manner. This process involves bringing the 6th grade into the youth department and creating separate middle school and high school ministries. Structurally, the youth ministry will look similar to the past with the 6th graders having their own graded Sunday school class and attending youth group on Wednesday nights. The differences will be separate Sunday night and Wednesday night teaching times aimed at their age, more individual attention and middle school specific events and activities.

In our small groups, our goal is to present Scripture in the way it was meant to be studied: focusing on individual passages and then connecting them to God’s larger story while pulling life-changing doctrine out of them. There are two opportunities to join us for small group Bible study. At 8:30 on Sunday mornings all grades meet together for Bible study. At 9:30 we gather in the Salt House for a large group time before heading off to our graded
classes in the Deep End (the basement of the Salt House).
We offer a variety of Discipleship Classes for students who want to dive deeper into God's Word and grow in their relationship with Christ. These classes meet in the Deep End at 5:30 on Sunday evenings. The following are our current offerings:
Trek® (7th & 8th Grade) - The Sunday night discipleship option for middle school is called Trek®. The curriculum for this program comes from 24-7 Ministries, a ministry of Awana. With the addition of Trek, our already successful Awana program will now also provide a biblical foundation for our middle school students in a fun way that is relevant to their age. This program is designed specifically for 7 and 8th graders. (PLEASE NOTE: Sixth graders will have the opportunity to finishTruth In Trainingbefore joining Trek in 7th grade.) Trek challenges middle school students to consider their destiny in Christ and pursue it through life application of God's Word.
TrueU: Is the Bible Reliable? (9th - 12th Grade) - Is the Bible a book of myths and fairy tales, or is it a book of history and truth? This
study provides a thorough overview of major archaeological and historical discoveries that demonstrate the historical reliability of the Bible. The material presented in the ten lessons will help students to respond to critical arguments against the historicity of the Bible with solid evidence, and gain a better understanding of the geography, culture, and history of events in the Bible. Proven facts and insights from philosophy, cosmology and biology will help you engage intellectually with professors and peers, both in and outside of the classroom. For centuries, intellectuals and critics alike have questioned inconsistencies. The author examines ancient texts and archeological evidence to build a compelling case for the accuracy of Scripture - and why the Bible is more trustworthy than ever.
Youth Worship & Bible Study - Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m.
Every Wednesday night at 6:30, we meet in the Salt House and take a journey together into truth and the adventure that God is calling us to. With our live praise band, media and creative teaching, we provide students a place to bring their friends where they can receive introductory, but challenging levels of the Gospel.
