Women's Ministry

WISE Women's MinistryWe encourage all ladies to become involved in the Women's Ministry, also called W.I.S.E., which stands for Women Interacting, Supporting & Encouraging other sisters in Christ. Our annual events vary, but generally include a fashion show, tea room luncheons, cooking with our teens, making scarves for the women's mission, a Christmas brunch and helping with church events on an as needed basis. You will usually see some of us working the Welcome Center on Sunday mornings too. Along the way we've laughed a lot and made many new friendships.

Our mission is to reach women for Christ and mature them in their faith through prayer, Bible study and discipleship. It is also our desire to support the entire mission of our church. To learn more about the FBCJ W.I.S.E. Women's Ministry, please contact Janet Brinson by email or by phone (615-642-8445). Please email Kathy Denton to be placed on our email contact list for upcoming event information. Get involved today and share your heart with other sisters in Christ!

Guiding Verse: "To prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ." Ephesians 4:12-13

UPCOMING EVENTS

How Lord, Why Lord? A Study of Habakkuk

  • March 20 - Habakkuk Bible Study—How Lord, Why Lord? - Ladies, come join us on Saturday, March 20, from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. as Linda Carol Royalty leads us in studying God's word from the book of Habakkuk.
How long, LORD, must I call for help and You do not listen, or cry out to You about violence and You do not save? Why do You force me to look at injustice Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Oppression and violence are right in front of me. Strife is ongoing, and conflict escalates. This is why the law is ineffective and justice never emerges. For the wicked restrict the righteous; therefore, justice comes out perverted. —Habukkuk 1:2-4
Linda Carol has written this Bible study and will provide a notebook for everyone attending. There is no charge for the day, but we do ask for canned food donations for the church's food pantry. We will meet in the Salt House and will start promptly at 9:00 a.m. Breakfast will be available at 8:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided as well. Please go by the Welcome Center and sign up if you plan to attend. (NOTE: Signing up will help us with our food counts and for the number of notebooks we will need.)

  • April 16-18 - Women of Joy Conference - We have an opportunity to attend the Women of Joy Conference in Louisville, KY, April 16-18 with special guest speaker Sarah Palin! FBCJ has a limited number of tickets available for a $50 non-refundable deposit. The total cost is $129, which includes standard lodging (4 per room) for two nights and all conference participation. (The price does not include meals. Church vans will be available for transportation.) NOTE: The tickets the church had reserved for this event are now sold out. If you wish, you may be placed on a waiting list to be notified if anyone who purchased a ticket should be unable to attend.

  • April 24 - Beth Moore Simulcast at LifeHouse Fellowship - LifeHouse Fellowship will host a live simulcast of Beth Moore's new message, So Long Insecurity, on Saturday, April 24 from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., and they have invited us to join them. Lunch will be provided. For more information, call the church office or visit the LifeHouse web site.

  • May 2 - Welcome Reception for Dr. Rhonda Kelly - On Sunday, May 2, from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m., the ladies of FBCJ will host a welcome reception for our Spring Conference speaker, Dr. Rhonda Kelly. The reception will be held in the Salt House and light refreshments will be served. Dr. Kelly is the daughter of Bob Harrington, who was known as the “Chaplain of Bourbon Street.” Her family was broken when her father left his wife for another woman. During the conference, Dr. Kelly will use the biblical character, Samson, to reveal how we can overcome pain to be renewed to God's purpose. Come join us as we welcome Dr. Kelly to our church. We will enjoy this time together to meet, greet and have an open discussion with Dr. Kelly. See you there!

  • INTERFACE Women Mentoring WomenINTERFACE - Wehave begun a new women's ministry called INTERFACE: Women Mentoring Women. The goal of INTERFACE is to reach women who have a strong desire and commitment to study the Bible and serve along with other Christian women in our church. The program includes an intense personal Bible study coupled with practical living skills in small intimate group settings. It involves a 3-year commitment of two 12-week sessions per year. It is family friendly in that it will begin the last week of August and end in the middle of November. We do not resume meetings until the middle of January and end in April. Times of these meetings will be determined by the individual leaders, and child care will be provided. This is not a “drop by when you feel like it” Bible Study. Meetings are approximately 2 hours each week. The rewards of being personally accountable to someone else to be in the Word on a daily basis will be just one of the blessings we will get from this study. If you have a strong desire to know the Bible better, have a closer relationship with the Lord, and develop strong Christian friendships, we invite you to explore this unique way of studying God's Word. Note: Our current participants are beginning their second semester. The next new session will start in August 2010. Watch for announcements regarding sign-up prior to that time. For more information, contact Carol Ashford, Pat Carroll or Carolyn Ellis.

ONGOING MINISTRY OPPORTUNITIES

  • HOPE CENTER - The Hope Center is a ministry of the Nashville Rescue Mission. It is a Biblically based 7 to 12-month residential recovery program for women suffering from alcohol and drug addictions or other life-debilitating problems. The Hope Center works together with a mother and her children or single women to build up spiritual, physical, mental and emotional strengths leading to more stable relationships and recovery. For the past seven years, the Women's Ministry of FBCJ has gone to the Hope Center on the 4th Thursday of each month to serve food and host a graduation party for the ladies who have graduated from that program. We provide food for approximately 50 women and gifts for each graduate. If you would like to know more about this ministry, contact Linda Carol Royalty at 876-4643 or Pat Carroll at 876-4705.

  • WOMEN'S ePRAYER GROUP - We are grateful to Bonnie Cecil for starting and maintaining our email prayer ministry ("ePrayer Group") for sharing prayer requests and praises. The theme for this ministry is Psalm 46:1: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble." If you would like to participate, send your email address and any prayer requests to Bonnie Cecil. Each week, Bonnie will send the prayer requests/praises she has received to everyone on the email list. We will also have prayergrams available in the Prayer Room for anyone who does not have email but would like to participate.
