Senior Adults

The senior adult ministry is made up of two groups that meet separately but work together supporting our church in its mission of "impacting our communities with the hope, peace and purpose of Jesus Christ."

The 39ers meet in the Salt House on the second Tuesday of every month at 11:00 a.m. for a Bible study and covered dish lunch here at the church. The 39ers also engage in ministry opportunities, games, crafts and other activities on these days.

The Forerunners meet in the Salt House on the second Thursday evening of each month at 6:30 p.m. for a covered dish dinner. Dinner is followed with a guest speaker/singer, games and other ministry activities.

We are blessed to be able to meet, eat and take a day trip every now and then and other times enjoy a guest speaker or entertainment. For some, this is the extent of our social life but that's only a part of the blessings we receive. The real blessings come from aiding each other and others in times of need, ministering in nursing homes and to those who are homebound. Hospital visits aren't off limits, but we probably get more than we give since travel is an issue for some.

Ministry Opportunities

Shut-In Ministry - Becky West is compiling a database of shut-ins, and we hope to be able to match volunteers to shut-ins, providing an opportunity to build a rapport between the two and enabling volunteers to identify and help to meet the needs of the shut-in on a very personal level. Volunteers will use a checkllist to assess such needs as safety issues, food availability, housekeeping, dementia, medical equipment, etc. We have doctor and nurse volunteers to provide advice on meeting medical needs, as well as resources for medical supplies, glasses and medical equipment. Anyone who is interested in becoming involved in this ministry should contact the church office.

Love in Action Nursing Home Ministry - S.A.L.T. (Senior Adult Leadership Team) is looking for seniors who can sing/act/move to ENGAGE in a new ministry initially for nursing homes and shut-ins. If interested, please contact Herb or Diane Berry at 615-746-3568.

Sewing Ministry - Peggy West, Betty Fletcher and Ardi Broome have organized a sewing/quilting club which is currently sewing pillow case dresses for orphans in Uganda and Haiti, lap throws for Christain Care Rest Home in Ashland City, and adult bibs for our shut-in meals ministry. If you are interested in sewing and would like to join us, please contact Peggy at 876-2525. If you don't sew, you can help by donating new or gently used pillow cases, or even sheets. Any and all donations would be greatly appreciated.

Fundraising

When you drive by the church and see the beautiful electronic sign flashing messages of activities and events, think of the seniors. The sign is a gift from us to our church, made possible by fundraisers we sponsor in which everyone can participate without a special offering. It is our goal to pay it off completely by this time next year -- or possilby sooner. You can help us make this happen by supporting our various fundraising activities.

We have a couple of ongoing fundraisers in which everyone can participate. If you shop at Kroger you can help by using a Kroger gift card to pay for your purchases. You can get one of these gift cards from the church office and use it just like a credit or debit card when you do your grocery shopping, and Kroger will donate to the church 4 percent of all purchases made with the card.

Another thing that we do to raise money for the church is Aluminum Can Recycling. Save your aluminum cans and deposit them in the bin behind the Family Life Center. The proceeds go toward many church related projects. Recycling is becoming a way of life with us today, make it profitable to our cause by bringing your cans to the church.
Tasteful Treasures FBCJ Cookbook
Cookbook - Fundraiser for Children's Renovation Project
A special project we took on to raise money for the Children's Renovation Project was the 2009 Church Cookbook. We collected recipes from church members and produced a new churchwide cookbook and made it available for a donation of $10.00. These books contain 450 recipes and will make wonderful gifts for birthdays, weddings, Christmas, etc. All proceeds will be designated to the Children's Area Renovation Project. There are only a few copies left — contact the church office to get yours today!
