Mother's Day Out

Mother's Day Out (MDO) has been a ministry of FBCJ since 1971, providing quality childcare in a loving, Christian environment for parents of preschoolers age 3 months to pre-K. Our greatest desire is that the MDO program is a safe and enjoyable place for your child to grow developmentally, socially, and spiritually. All children are welcome in our program regardless of race, religion or culture. .

SCHEDULE: Mother's Day Out meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. during the months of August through May. FBCJ also offers a summer MDO session during June and July (also on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 until 2). The 2011 Summer Session will begin on June 14, and the 2011-12 Fall Session will begin on August 23.

REGISTRATION: Fall/Summer registration begins in March of each year and continues throughout the year as space is available. There is a non-refundable $30 registration fee per child that must accompany each application. PLEASE NOTE: We are now full and are no longer taking registrations for the 2011-12 Summer or Fall sessions. If you wish, you can be placed on a waiting list to be contacted if we should have any openings.

Each child MUST have current proof of a physical examination and immunizations on file in the director's office in order to complete the registration process. Your pediatrician can fax a copy of the “yellow card” directly to the church at 615-876-0709. NOTE: Children will be assigned to classes on a first come, first served basis. Should a class be full, your child will be placed on a Waiting List, and the $30 will be returned to you.

TUITION PAYMENTS: Tuition for the 2011 Summer Session is $120/month per child for two days, or $60/month per child for one day, with a 20% discount for any siblings. Due to increasing operating costs, there will be a small increase in tuition beginning with the 2011-12 Fall Session. Fall tuition will be $130/month per child for two days, or $65/month per child for one day, with a 20% discount for any siblings. If you must temporarily withdraw your child due for any reason, the full tuition must be paid to reserve their space. Tuition is due by the 10th of each month unless other arrangements are made with the director. Overdue accounts will be assessed a $10 late fee. If no payment is received by the end of the month, your child may not continue to attend until the payment and late fee are received.

STAFF: MDO is staffed by well-qualified Christian women. Each classroom has two caregivers. All staff are carefully screened prior to hiring, including a criminal background check and drug screening. Each staff member is also trained and certified in infant/child CPR and First Aid.

CURRICULUM: For ages 2 to pre-K, we will be using the ABCs of the Bible (Thomas Nelson Publishers), as well as various other resources. A monthly calendar will be sent home highlighting the topics to be discussed that month. **Occasionally, age appropriate, G-rated videos may be shown. Parents will be notified in advance as to the title of the video and the day to be shown. If you do not wish your child to watch the video/any videos, please let the teacher know and they will plan an alternate activity.

LUNCH: Children will need to bring their own lunch and drink each day. Sippy cups and baby bottles must be labeled with your child's name. We strongly encourage parents to send in a lunch with a variety of healthy choices. We will provide a healthy snack and milk/ 100% apple juice mid-morning. Please note any food allergies on your registration form, and make sure your child's teacher is also aware.

SUPPLIES: Children in the 2- and 3-year-old rooms will need a mat and blanket for rest time. Cribs are available in the infant and toddler rooms. All children will need to have extra clothing in case of accidents or spills. All belongings need to be clearly labeled with your child's name.

PARTIES AND PROGRAMS: Individual classes will have four parties during the year including Harvest, Christmas, Valentines and Easter. Parents may be asked to help provide snacks or games. Parents may also schedule a birthday party for their child by contacting the teacher ahead of time. We will also have other programs/guest speakers for the children throughout the year. Parents are always welcome to join us for these.

DISCIPLINE POLICY: Corporal punishment will not be used at First Baptist Church Joelton. Most mis-behaviors can be handled within the classroom setting. Occasionally, time away from the group may be necessary. If serious behavior problems persist, a conference with the teacher and director will be scheduled to develop a plan to modify behavior. If harmful behavior persists, the Mother's Day Out ministry reserves the right to remove a child from the program.

DROP OFF/PICK UP: You will need to walk your child to their classroom each day. Children are not to be dropped off before 8:50 a.m. This allows the teachers preparation time for the day.

MDO ends at 2 p.m. You will also need to pick your child up at their classroom at the end of the day. It is extremely important that you be on time to pick up your child. After 2:00, teachers are responsible for cleaning and straightening their rooms. SEE LATE FEE POLICY.

Your child must be checked in and out each day at the Parent Pager computers located at the Welcome Center desk. They will only be released to a parent/guardian or persons authorized on your transportation plan. Notify the director of any changes to this plan. ** Children will not be released, even with prior authorization, to anyone appearing unsafe to transport children (ie; out of control, intoxicated, etc.). In this instance, an emergency contact will be called to pick up the child.**

LATE FEE POLICY: For every minute after 2:05 p.m you are late, you will be charged $1.00/minute, payable immediately to the teacher for her extra time caring for your child. Arriving a few minutes before 2:00 will insure a prompt pick-up.

ILLNESS: Children showing any sign of illness (fever, persistent coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, pink eye, undetermined skin rash, etc.) should be kept home until they are symptom-free for 24 hours. If a child becomes ill while at MDO, a parent or authorized adult will be called to pick up the child immediately. We do not administer medications at MDO, and none should be kept in their diaper bags or backpacks.

FIRST AID/MEDICAL EMERGENCIES: Our staff will administer basic first aid as needed. In the event of a medical emergency, we will contact the parents first, and if unsuccessful, the designated emergency contact second. For life-threatening emergencies, EMS will be called. Please notify the director of any phone number or address changes throughout the year.

SAFETY: The church building remains locked at all times, and can be entered by activating the intercom system at the front entrance. Outside doors to classrooms also remain locked.

All teachers are trained to handle emergency situations, such as fire, tornado, or other environmental issues. Regular drills will be held with the classes throughout the year. Please see emergency plan below.

INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the case of inclement weather, you may call the preschool office directly at 876-8763 after 6:30 a.m for information about closing. You may also watch the major news networks for information about closing. Should there be a need to close MDO early, parents will be notified by the director via phone call. Please make sure your emergency phone numbers are kept current.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE: If issues arise that are of concern to you, please follow this procedure: Share your concern with your child's teacher if it is related to your child or the classroom. Share your concern with the Weekday Education Director if your concern is not resolved with the teacher, or if it is with something other than the classroom. If you feel additional assistance is needed, you may contact the Minister of Preschool and Children to set up a meeting (876-0527).

EMERGENCY PLAN

Below is our emergency evacuation plan. Please read carefully so that you are familiar with the procedure should an emergency ever arise.

FIRE EVACUATION: All children will participate in fire drills monthly. Each classroom has an evacuation floor plan posted just inside the doorway. Children will exit the building via the door in their classroom opening to the playground. The nursery will exit by way of the front doors. They will proceed to the gravel parking lot farthest from the building by the dumpsters.

TORNADO/SEVERE WEATHER: All children will participate in regular severe weather drills. The tornado evacuation floor plan is also located just inside the classroom doorway. Children will exit their classroom via the door to the hallway, and will be taken to Room 109, which is an inner room on the first floor (by the adult restrooms). This is our designated safe place.

OFF-SITE EVACUATION: If an emergency arises requiring us to evacuate the building, we will walk the children to the church administration building next door to the church. This is only in severe circumstances requiring immediate evacuation.

In all cases, teachers will take their class emergency forms and the daily Sign-In clipboard with them. In the event of a true emergency, not a drill, parents will be contacted.
