When we think of David, our first thoughts are often of the shepherd boy who conquered the much feared giant with a slingshot and a single stone. That's an amazing story that reveals God's favor on David, but there's so much more to the story of David's life —and so much more we can learn from it.
David learned from an early age to rely on God as he fearlessly protected his family's sheep. He communed with God daily, praying and singing. He grew into a brave warrior and was chosen by God to be King of Israel. Throughout David's life, God was with him and gave him victory over his enemies. Through trials and adversity, and despite his mistakes, David had remarkable faith, and God was able to accomplish great things through him.
There was no more heroic or successful person in the Old Testament than David. Some of the highlights of his life include:
He was the only person called “a man after God's own heart.” (1 Samuel 13:13-14)
He always showed courage and boldness in the face of enemies.
He established a throne and legacy that was blessed by God, and the Bible says will never end. (2 Sam. 7: 12 - 16)
He succeeded in truly unifying Israel. He set up a strong, monarchical government and established Jerusalem as its capital.
He returned the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem, its rightful resting place.
He expanded the kingdom of Israel and acquired the resources to build the temple.
From David's life, we can learn the most personal and real-to-life lessons. Many of these will be addressed in this series of sermons that will take us through the end of the year. Audio (MP3) files of these sermons will be posted
below as they become available.
