Annual Creek Baptism

Old-Fashioned Ice Cream Social & Annual Creek Baptism
Sunday Evening, July 5 at 5:30

In 1915, twenty-three people met and organized a Baptist church in Joelton, Tennessee. Their first services were held in a brush arbor on property owned by charter member, George R. Milliken. In the first few weeks, the members decided to name their church Joelton Baptist Church. Baptisms were conducted in a large pool in Sycamore Creek, near the Davidson-Robertson County line, or occasionally in Whites Creek near Whites Creek Pike and Seymour Hollow Road. This practice continued even after the first church building was built in 1916; until a baptistery was installed in the church building in 1956. On the first Sunday of July, 1991, Pastor David Royalty reinstituted the ministry of the traditional “creek baptism” at Sycamore Creek. FBCJ continues to celebrate baptism at the creek during the summer each year. This is a special time for individuals to show their spiritual acceptance of faith or to reaffirm their faith by renewing their baptism.

On Sunday, July 5, we will gather at the church for an old fashioned ice-cream social at 5:30 p.m. and will then proceed to Sycamore Creek for our baptism service at 6:30 p.m. We hope everyone will join us for this special time of fellowship and worship. Bring or make your favorite ice-cream. Everyone is welcome!

Anyone who is interested in participating in the service or sensing the need in their spiritual life to reaffirm their faith by renewing their baptism, please plan to join us. You can sign up by filling out the form on the tear off section of the bulletin and placing it in the offering plate or by calling the church office.

NOTE TO BAPTISM CANDIDATES:
Please meet with Bro. David in Room 1105 at 4:30 p.m. prior to the ice-cream social.
